Wilkinson County Schools is pleased to welcome Dr. LaTonia Butts as Assistant Principal of Instruction at Wilkinson County High School.
Dr. Butts brings an extensive background in educational leadership, having served students and school communities across Baldwin County, Bibb County, Fulton County, Dublin City Schools, and now Wilkinson County. Throughout her career, she has held a variety of roles, including para-professional, classroom teacher, PEC Lead Teacher, assistant principal, alternative school administrator, and school improvement specialist.
Her educational journey is equally impressive. Dr. Butts holds degrees in psychology, counseling and psychology, educational leadership, educational law, and employment law. She also earned a paralegal certification from the University of Georgia and proudly served six years in the United States Army, an experience she credits with strengthening her commitment to servant leadership, teamwork, and service.
Since joining Wilkinson County High School, Dr. Butts has immersed herself in the school community by collaborating with administrators and teachers, participating in leadership planning, and building relationships with students and staff. She believes those relationships are the foundation of a thriving school environment.
As Assistant Principal of Instruction, Dr. Butts looks forward to supporting teachers through collaboration, strengthening instructional practices, using data to inform decisions, and ensuring every student has access to meaningful learning opportunities. She is excited to work alongside families, educators, and community partners as Wilkinson County High School continues to build a culture of excellence.
Dr. Butts describes herself as a servant leader, purpose-driven, and transformational. Her leadership philosophy is reflected in one of her favorite quotes by Simon Sinek: "Leadership is not about being in charge. Leadership is about taking care of those in your charge."
