Board Policy JCDAF: Use of Electronic Devices by Students

Wilkinson County Schools has released a proposed Board policy in response to Georgia’s new Distraction-Free Education Act (O.C.G.A. § 20-2-324.3), which requires every school district to establish clear rules and procedures for minimizing cell phone and device distractions in classrooms.

The proposed policy reinforces the district’s commitment to a safe, engaging, and focused learning environment—aligned with our mission to Expand, Empower, and Excel. Once adopted, the policy will serve as the local framework for enforcing the new state law.

The Georgia Department of Education has set a timeline requiring districts to adopt policies by January 1, 2026, with full enforcement beginning July 1, 2026. Wilkinson County Schools invites all community members, parents, and staff to review the proposed policy and provide feedback prior to Board adoption.
