WCSD SchoolNurtition Director

Wilkinson County Schools is proud to welcome Mrs. Donna Coats as the district’s new School Nutrition Director. With more than two decades of experience leading school nutrition programs across Georgia, Mrs. Coats brings a deep commitment to student health and well-being.

A native of Wilcox County, Mrs. Coats began her professional journey as a bookkeeper. Her path led her to school nutrition when she took on a bookkeeping role for Pulaski County Schools. That opportunity sparked a lasting passion: “I’ve always had a love for accounting, and when I began working in school nutrition, I realized it was the perfect blend—serving others, working with numbers, and supporting children,” she shared.

Mrs. Coats later stepped into the role of School Nutrition Director in Pulaski County, where she served for nearly 15 years. She then continued her leadership in Dooly County for more than 6 years before joining Wilkinson County Schools.

“I believe it’s vitally important to ensure that every child receives proper nutrition, because their health and well-being directly impact their ability to learn and thrive,” she explained. “Being part of that mission is deeply fulfilling, and I’m proud to contribute to the success of future generations.”

When asked what excites her most about joining the Wilkinson County team, Mrs. Coats didn’t hesitate. “It’s energizing to join a district that truly values the role nutrition plays in student success. I look forward to building strong relationships with the staff, students, and community, and working together to ensure every child has access to nutritious, well-balanced meals.”

Known by those close to her as dedicated, motivated, and compassionate, Mrs. Coats lives by the motto: “Serve with heart, lead with purpose.” Outside of work, she enjoys riding motorcycles, fishing, and “glamping” — camping with a little extra comfort and style. She also loves antique shopping and collecting vintage tea cups and saucers. One of her greatest joys? Hosting tea parties with her 3-year-old granddaughter, Eleanor, who affectionately calls her “Honey.”

“I’m excited to join the WILCO WARRIOR family because I believe we can make a real difference in students’ lives—while having fun along the way,” she said. “The power of community and teamwork is key to creating a positive environment.”

Families will have a chance to meet Mrs. Coats at the Back to School Bash on Friday, July 19, where she’ll be on hand to greet the community and kick off the new year.

Please join us in giving a warm Warrior welcome to Mrs. Donna Coats!
