Wilkinson County Schools proudly recognizes the retirement of three central office leaders whose combined service to the district spans more than 125 years: Janis Smith, Human Resources Officer; Alvin Whipple, Maintenance Director; and Judy Brown, School Nutrition Director.
Each has made a lasting impact through steady leadership, deep knowledge of the district, and years of committed service to students, staff, and families.
Janis Smith began her career with Wilkinson County Schools as a paraprofessional at the middle school, later serving in the front office at the primary and elementary school before joining the central office team. Her pathway reflects a deep-rooted commitment to the school system, having supported families and staff at nearly every level. In her role as Human Resources Officer, she has been a consistent and trusted presence—helping guide hiring, onboarding, and employee support with professionalism and care.
Alvin Whipple has led the district’s Maintenance Department with reliability and experience. Whether responding to urgent facility needs or overseeing long-term building projects, he has been instrumental in keeping our schools safe, functional, and ready to serve the needs of students and staff. His knowledge of the district’s infrastructure and quiet leadership have anchored daily operations for decades.
Judy Brown has been a familiar and friendly face in Wilkinson County Schools for many years, serving with heart and determination in the School Nutrition Department. Known for her upbeat personality and deep care for those around her, she remained committed to the work—even through personal challenges. Her steady presence and positive spirit brought encouragement to her team and to school staff across the district. Judy’s dedication to doing her part, no matter the circumstances, stands as a testament to her strength and her loyalty to Wilkinson County Schools.
As they move into retirement, Wilkinson County Schools extends sincere appreciation to Mrs. Smith, Mr. Whipple, and Mrs. Brown for their years of service and dedication. Their contributions have helped shape the district’s day-to-day operations, and they leave behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and commitment to the Warrior community.
Congratulations to each of them—and thank you for your years of service to Wilkinson County Schools.
