The Federal Programs Department at Wilkinson County Schools plays a crucial role in ensuring that all students have access to a high-quality education and the opportunity to excel academically. The department aims to address the diverse needs of students, staff, and the community through various funding sources and programs. These programs are tailored to support different groups, such as low-income families, rural students, high-quality educators, and specific student populations, all while utilizing evidence-based strategies for continuous improvement.

One of the key responsibilities of the Federal Programs Department is to oversee and manage federal funds allocated for programs like the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) programs. These programs include:

  • Title I, Part A: Offers additional instructional services to students from Pre-K to 12th grade in core academic subjects.
  • Title II-A: Focuses on enhancing student achievement by improving the quality of teachers and principals through professional development, recruitment, and retention.
  • Title III: Supports English language instruction for limited English proficient students to help them meet academic standards.
  • Title IV: Aims to provide a holistic education, improve school environments, and enhance technology integration to boost academic achievement and digital literacy.
  • Title V: The Rural Education Initiative assists rural school districts in effectively utilizing federal resources to enhance instruction quality and student achievement, particularly through the Rural and Low-Income School (RLIS) program.

By promoting family engagement and collaboration, the Federal Programs Department strives to ensure compliance with regulations, maintain program quality, and deliver effective instruction to at-risk student populations. The ultimate goal is to create a supportive educational environment that empowers all students in Wilkinson County to succeed.
