2022 E-SPLOST Renewal for Wilkinson County Schools

The E-SPLOST is up for renewal again during in Early Voting beginning May 2 and on Election Day, May 24, 2022. Last Updated: 4/9/2022 4:45 PM

Please see the headings below to learn more about the main four areas in which we invest E-SPLOST revenue: Debt Retirement, Renovations, Technology, and Transportation.

Debt Retirement

wilkinson primary elementary

WCSD has invested E-SPLOST revenue to pay off the “mortgage” incurred by the building of the New Primary/Elementary school. This debt will be fully retired by 2026.

The renewal will fund the continued retirement of bond debt.  Without the E-SPLOST to fulfill this obligation, all planned construction and renovations projects, technology investments, and school bus purchases would halt.  The E-SPLOST allows for this cost to be shared by visitors and residents alike based on purchases instead of through a property tax increase.

WCSD has invested E-SPLOST revenue to renovate our two older schools to ensure that every child attends a safe and updated school. The renewal will fund more renovations at schools Districtwide ranging from new roofs to HVAC upgrades.

fleet of current buses

WCSD school buses transport 80% of students to and/or from school.

WCSD has invested E-SPLOST revenue to purchase new school buses to replace those that have logged a lifetime of miles.

The renewal will fund the replacement of aging buses over the next five years.  This is another area for which E-SPLOST serves as the main source of funding.

Students and teachers use technology throughout the day in WCSD schools.

WCSD has invested E-SPLOST revenue to enhance technology infrastructure not only in classrooms but also underground, to provide students and teachers with the hardware, software, and connectivity needed for success.

The renewal will fund technology-related infrastructure and equipment to further academic achievement and increase operational efficiency.  With little State funding for technology, E-SPLOST remains the main revenue source for this expense.
